Tag Rugby World Cup 2018

Have you got what it takes?

The International Tag Federation (ITF) has announced the Tag 2018 World Cup to take place 1-4 November 2018, in Coffs Harbour, Australia.

An anticipated 190 teams will represent more than 30 countries, bringing together more than 3,800 players and officials.

HKTag is actively scouting Hong Kong eligible* players for this amateur competition, the biggest event on the international Tag calendar. Sign-up takes place across May and June 2018 and interested players should get in touch at info@hktag.org. Players must be members of HKTag and registered for the HKTag Super League 2018.

ITF Tag 2018 World Cup – Outline Agenda

October 31: Registration

November 1, 18.00: Opening Ceremony

November 2, 19.30 – late: Day 1 Pool Play Time

November 3, 9.00 – 21.30: Day 2 Pool Play Time

November 4, 9.00 – 17.30: Finals Day

Formed in 2008, the ITF comprises five full member nations (Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain & N. Ireland, Ireland and South Africa) and a further 11 associated members. With more than 30 nations invited to participate in the Tag 2018 World Cup, participation and popularity of Tag continues to grow internationally.

The last Tag World Cup took place in 2015 on the Sunshine Coast in Australia and attracted a record 168 teams. More than 3,300 players, 300 coaches and managers, 60 referees and 2,500 families and friends joined the event. The eventual winners – Coffs Harbour – will now play host to the Tag 2018 World Cup in November.

*Eligibility requirements A player is eligible to play Internationals for:-

  1. the country in which they were born;

  2. the country in which either of their parents or any of their grandparents were born;

  3. the country which has been their principal place of residence for a period of three years up to the date of his/her selection. Must have been present in that country for nine months in any period of twelve months during the three years up to the date of their selection.
